The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's University Research Week returns Oct. 21-25. The weeklong celebration features educational and entertaining events for the community, as well as informative events tailored for students and researchers in the field. This year's theme "Back to Basics," is a celebration of foundational research and its real-world impact.
"Research is a cornerstone of our mission at Carolina, profoundly enhancing our students' educational experiences and driving innovation that benefits the entire state of North Carolina and the world beyond," Chancellor Lee H. Roberts said. "We're proud to celebrate our foundational research, which contributes to a brighter future for all."

Het Talks (Oct. 21, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Wilson Library) are engaging talks on a variety of innovative research topics, including wearable devices and drug delivery, relationships between environmental exposures and health outcomes, black holes and the genetics of autism.

Navigating the News: Spotting Fakes and Facts in an Election Year (Oct. 22, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Undergraduate Library) features library staff from the Hussman School of Journalism and Media on tips to navigate your news feed.

UNC Research & Discovery Fair (Oct. 23, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Carolina Student Union) will feature research labs performing live experiments in an array of areas like marine biology, robotics, drones, music and more.

Appetite for Life: Exploring New Targets in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (Oct. 23, Noon to 1 p.m., Online via Zoom) will cover new research on breast cancer, including emerging approaches to treatment that show promising results for reducing the harsh side effects.

A Case for Climate Optimism with Zealan Hoover, U.S. EPA Senior Advisor(Oct. 23, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., CURRENT ArtSpace) is the keynote address featuring Hoover, who has led EPA's implementation of more than $100 billion in programs authorized under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.

Pariser Global Lecture for Innovation in Physical Sciences (Oct 23, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.), an annual global lecture, will be given by Kimberly Budil, the first female director of the Lawerence Livermore National Laboratory. Chancellor Roberts will also be inducted into the Chapel Hill chapter of Sigma Xi at the event.

Supporting North Carolina's Caregivers: Insights, Initiatives, and Future Directions (Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday Conference Center) will examine the unique challenges caregivers face. It will include recent policy developments and new initiatives.
