Garland Public Library Celebrates Inaugural Community Read Program

In September, Garland Public Library concluded its inaugural community read event, One Book, One Garland. The initiative offered residents the opportunity to dive into the same book and partake in a whirlwind of fun activities. This year, participants enjoyed the gripping tale "Hard Country" by New York Times bestselling local author Reavis Z. Wortham.

The One Book, One Garland grand finale featured a lineup of spectacular events, including an unforgettable evening with the author, a lively book club gathering, an engaging writing workshop and an action-packed CrimeCon day.

On Sept. 14, more than 60 enthusiastic readers gathered to hear Wortham share his insights and stories. The special-edition book club drew in 48 participants, while 14 budding writers joined in an inspirational and informative workshop. On Sept. 28, 50 crime aficionados descended on CrimeCon for a day filled with thrills and chills!

Though One Book, One Garland has officially wrapped up for 2024, the buzz isn't over! Dedicated staff and excited library users have already begun brainstorming ideas for next year's event. Stay tuned for the next chapter in our community reading adventure!
