SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The Shepherd University Student Government Association (SGA) and the Stubblefield Institute Civility Club partnered to host their second student-led town hall, "For Students, By Students: General Election Town Hall," on October 3.

"For Students, By Students" was moderated by SGA president, Paul Teter and vice president, Jackson Heath. The SGA has been working to create more opportunities for Shepherd students to be more involved in local government. The event was open to all Shepherd students and the public.

"All of the candidates were excited to hear from the students and to have the platform to share their perspectives and positions on these issues," said Teter. "I think overall this event continued the goals and objectives of the Year of Civility by promoting and facilitating civil political engagement and participation."

Students were encouraged to attend the town hall and raise questions to the attending candidates. Topics included funding for education, food insecurity, concealed carry laws, healthcare, solar and renewable energy, equal rights, book bans, and more.

Candidates include those running for seats in House Districts 97, 98, 99, 100 and Jefferson County Commission seats in the Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, and Middleway Districts.

The event was broadcast live through Shepherd's student-run radio station, WSHC, 89.7 FM, and is available through the WSHC Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
