Ballistic Science & LPR Help Detectives Solve Apartment Complex Pool Party Shooting from July

Four months of investigation into gunfire during a July 11 pool party at Cambridge at Hickory Hollow Apartments has led to a series of criminal charges against the two 18-year-olds alleged to be responsible. Ballistic science and a private license plate reader were essential parts of this case.

Specialized Investigations Division detectives Tuesday arrested Sujoy Guha-Perry, who drove the car from which the shooter emerged and opened fire. A then 16-year-old girl was struck by gunfire in the backside as a number of persons attending the party ran for cover.

The actual shooter is alleged to be Davin Denson Jr. Denson has been in jail since October when he shot his girlfriend during an argument over her pregnancy. The semi-automatic pistol Denson was carrying when he was arrested was analyzed by the MNPD Crime Laboratory and was determined to be the same weapon used to fire the shots at the July pool party. Additionally, an analysis of Denson's cell phone pursuant to a search warrant revealed a video of the pool party shooting, and Guha-Perry driving the vehicle.

A license plate reader at the apartment complex also greatly assisted detectives in advancing this investigation.

Guha-Perry is jailed on five counts of felony aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.

In addition to attempted criminal homicide for the October shooting, Denson is now being booked on five counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of reckless endangerment, and unlawful felony gun possession for the pool party shooting.
