1. Leadership & Communications

City of Dallas Closures- Monday Oct 14

The City of Dallas offices will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, for Indigenous Peoples' Day. For a full list of department and facility closures click HERE.

Dallas Community Resources Hub-

The Community Resources Welcoming Hub exists to connect Dallas residents with free and low-cost resources to enhance the quality of life for all in Dallas. Services include: food, housing, transportation, healthcare, jobs, education, financial and legal assistance, and more. Search resources in over 100 languages for FREE HERE.

Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Master Plan Update- Oct. 15

Parking Meter Rate Changes-

Beginning October 1, 2024, the minimum on-street parking meter rate will increase to $1.00 an hour. For more information click HERE and see BILINGUAL FLYER.

Dia de Muertos: Messages of Love for the Forgotten and Disappeared- Oct. 12 to Nov. 9

Reception with the artists: 5:00 to 7:00pm Sunday Oct. 13

The Bath House Cultural Center presents the 38th annual Día de Muertos exhibition. In 2024, the show is titled Día de Muertos: Messages of Love for the Forgotten and Disappeared. The exhibition, curated by Enrique Fernández Cervantes, includes art in a variety of media and altar installations by local, regional, and national artists. For more information click HERE.

Grown Folks Jazz Night- 7:00 to 10:00pm Friday Oct. 18

Dallas Airport System will host an intimate evening of soulful music, delicious food, and good vibes under the stars at the Commemorative Air Force Headquarters located at Dallas Executive Airport. A Day of Remembrance- 10:00am to 12:30pm Saturday Oct. 19

The Dallas Police Department and partners are hosting this "Day of Remembrance" in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Attend this community event to raise awareness, support survivors, and strive for a future free from violence. See FLYER for more information.

Bark in the Park- 11:00am to 1:00pm Saturday Oct. 19

October is ​Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us for domestic violence awareness in our community. There will be special guest speakers, food trucks and pet adoptions in a family-friendly environment. For more information click HERE.

Get Your House in Order- 10:00am to 2:00pm Saturday Oct. 19

During this event you'll learn to stop division and create understanding within families, navigate the grieving process, prevent family divisions, foster unity & harmony, and more. For more information see FLYER.

Sukkot Dinner- 6:30 to 8:30pm Monday Oct. 21

Part of the robust fall Jewish holiday season, Sukkot is a celebration of the harvest. During the 8-day holiday, it is the tradition to welcome guests to receive hospitality in a Sukkah, a temporary shelter that many Jews live in over the course of the festival. Join members of the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council to learn more about and participate in a celebration of Sukkot. For more information click HERE.

3. Equitable Access

Enhanced Library Card-

The Enhanced Library Card (ELC) is a library card that contains a person's full name, home address, date of birth, and picture. In addition to all the benefits of a regular library card, it can serve as a method for verifying identity, particularly for individuals that face barriers getting a state or federal ID. You will need to consult with the organizations/entities with which you would like to use the Enhanced Library Card as part of establishing your identity to determine if/how the Enhanced Library Card can be used for this purpose. Free Bomba Y Plena Concert- 9:15pm Saturday Oct 12

This concert is part of the 5th Annual Latinidades Theatre Festival uniting the community through Afro-Puerto Rican music, dance, and cultural traditions - don't miss this powerful celebration at La Plaza! Recycled Art Workshop- 1:00 to 3:00pm Saturday Oct. 12 & 19

Join Oak Cliff Cultural Center for a workshop where we'll be creating sculptures using found objects and recycled materials. It's a great opportunity to unleash your creativity while also learning about the importance of recycling and reusing. This workshop invites you to discover the potential in things that are usually discarded, and encourages us all to reconsider our consumption habits to find beauty in the unexpected. Freedom to Read- 11:00am to 2:00pm Saturday Oct 19

Oct. 19 is Freedom to Read Community Day of Action, in partnership with Unite Against Banned Books, in collaboration with libraries and advocates nationwide. Celebrate your freedom to read by learning about the right to read and literacy education in Dallas. ArtsActivate- Deadline 11:59pm Monday Oct. 21

If the Dallas Cultural Plan 2018 taught us anything, it was to engage the communities, neighborhoods, and residents of Dallas through meaningful artistic and cultural experiences. It taught us to look at our city and see where gaps and inequities of cultural access and experience exist. To continue to activate and encourage the intentional creative, artistic, and cultural impact on the residents of Dallas, ArtsActivate calls for arts and cultural projects by our Dallas arts and culture non-profit organizations, social service organizations, individual artists, and artist collectives to engage with communities, old and new, to provide a more equitable, diverse, and supportive arts ecosystem for the City of Dallas. 6 Feet Under Texas with Tui Snider- 6:00 to 7:00pm Tuesday Oct 22

Cemeteries become open-air museums when Tui Snider takes you on a playful-but-informative tour of historic Texas burial grounds. In her photo-filled presentation, Tui shares forgotten North Texas history. For more information click HERE.

Gravestone Symbols and Burial Societies- 2:00 to 3:00pm Wednesday Oct 23

There's more to our ancestors and relatives' final resting places than just the words on the headstone. Headstone symbols, cemetery location, and the section of the cemetery can all tell us more about the life of an ancestor or relative. For more information click HERE.

3rd Annual Halloween Extravaganza Event- 10:00am to 1:00pm Saturday Oct 26

Celebrate Halloween with the Dallas Police Department and the AT&T Performing Arts Center at this 3rd annual Halloween Family Extravaganza where we'll have a scavenger hunt, games, and costume contests with the chance to win goodies and tickets! Along with the special activities, we'll also have family weekend favorites, such as the petting zoo, caricaturist, and face painters. It's going to be a fa-BOO-lous event! Adult Learning-

Community Resources Meeting- 11:00 am to 12:00pm Tuesday Oct. 15

Northwest Community Center and partners are hosting this meeting for residents to learn about their rights. There will be representation by City of Dallas Attorney's Office, Fair Housing, Welcoming Communities & Immigrant Affairs, Code Compliance, and more. For more information see FLYER.

A Right to Stay- 5:30 to 7:00pm Wednesday Oct. 16

This is an invitation to an exclusive neighborhood preview of the Dallas Anti-Displacement Toolkit. Join Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation & Builders of Hope to preview the Anti-Displacement Toolkit before they present it to Dallas City Council. For more information click HERE.

Dallas Homeless Veteran Stand Down- 8:00am to 1:30pm Thursday Oct. 17

Urban Design Peer Review Panel- 8:30am to 12:00pm Friday Oct. 25

​The Panel is comprised of local Design, Planning and Engineering professionals. The UDPRP provides urban design advice to City staff, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Boards, City Plan Commission (CPC) and City Council as applicable for projects. Matilda Bridge Tree Planting Celebration- 9:00am to 1:00pm Saturday Oct. 26

Free event! Rain or shine! Come be part of an exciting day dedicated to improving our local ecosystem! There will be live music created by the sounds of trees, food trucks, family-friendly activities including Blackland Prairie seed dispersal. I Don't Dream About the Future- October 15 to Nov. 15

Dallas Oak Cliff Cultural Center unveils "I Don't Dream About the Future" by artist MOM. MOM crafts contemplative spaces that delve into themes of temporality and the overlap of past, present, and future, broaching the concept of time in new, thought-provoking ways, as per the City of Dallas. The Untold Story of Mexican-American Veterans- all day Sep. 28 to Nov. 30

An exhibit in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and Veterans Day. Mexican-Americans have served in the Military throughout history, but their stories have often been hidden or forgotten by textbooks and media depictions of veterans. For more information click HERE.

Code Compliance

The City of Dallas Code Compliance Department consists of three divisions: Neighborhood Code, Nuisance Abatement, and Consumer Health. Code Compliance ensures city codes, and ordinances are maintained, so Dallas continues to be a clean and safe city. Code Compliance does this by working with neighborhoods by providing education and building partnerships with non-profits, neighborhood associations, and other City of Dallas departments.

Boards & Commissions

The Mayor and City Council are​ very interested in you serving as a member of a City of Dallas Board or Commission.
