“I’m an 8 year legislator because you lost to me twice”: Top Moments From Janelle Bynum’s Dominating Debate Performance Against Lori Chavez DeRemer

During last night's debate in Oregon's 5th Congressional District, infamous hypocrite Lori Chavez-DeRemer blatantly lied to voters about her far-right agenda that would ban abortion nationwide, cut Social Security and Medicare, and implement Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy.

Fortunately, Democratic nominee Janelle Bynum made sure Chavez-DeRemer couldn't hide from her record in real time. Take a look at the debate's top three moments:

On Social Security and Medicare :

Bynum: "My opponent voted 26 times to cut Social Security.

Chavez-DeRemer: "Cite 'em. Cite 'em. Cite it."

Bynum: "It's in the literature. Baby, I will send it to you tonight."

On reproductive rights:

Bynum: "My opponent has voted thirteen times, in various capacities, to ensure that reproductive health care rights are not protected across this country."

Bynum: "I can tell you in my ads that I've stood up for reproductive rights. I'm not mealy-mouthed about making sure we protect Roe… [Republicans] want a full-out national abortion ban. Lori Chavez-DeRemer has celebrated this. She's been on the fence. You can't quite figure out where she is. She will say she's in the middle. There is no middle ground: you either support women and women's health across this country, or you don't."

On tax cuts:

Bynum: "Trump and his cronies are robbing this country blind. Lori Chavez-DeRemer is reaping those benefits by serving with them and rubber-stamping every policy they have. She's part of a no-good, do-nothing Congress."

Meanwhile, Bynum outlined her vision for Oregon: restoring Roe v. Wade protections, safeguarding and expanding access to Social Security and Medicare, and lowering costs for working families. In her closing statement, Bynum said voters have the choice between "Someone who full-stop supports the codification of Roe v. Wade vs. someone who's half in and half out… [someone] who shows up or a person who can't ever really be found."

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
"Last night's debate solidified that all Lori Chavez-DeRemer has to offer Oregonians is a self-serving, out-of-touch agenda riddled with anti-abortion extremism and lies. In stark contrast, Janelle Bynum has proven that she is ready to hit the ground running to deliver bipartisan, common-sense solutions to strengthen our economy, protect Oregonians' hard-earned benefits, and defend reproductive rights for families across the country."
