Update: State Police investigate a stabbing in the town of Altona

Update:

The New York State Police executed search warrants resulting in the arrest of a 15-year-old male from Ellenburg Depot, NY. The victim, James E. Rinn, age 79, of Ellenburg Depot, NY, remains in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder 2nd, Assault 2nd, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. He was arraigned in the Youth Part at Plattsburgh Town Court, where he was remanded to Clinton County Jail.

This investigation is being conducted by the New York State Police and the Clinton County District Attorney's Office. The State Police were assisted by the United States Customs and Border Protection, Clinton County Sheriff's Department, and local rescue departments.

On November 19, 2024, at approximately 8:29 a.m., New York State Police responded to Plank Road in the town of Altona for a report of a stabbing incident. A preliminary investigation determined the victim allowed a known male into his residence. The suspect used a screwdriver to stab the victim in the head, neck, and abdomen and fled the scene. The victim was medically evaluated by Altona EMS and transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital for further treatment.

A multi-agency organized search was set up, to locate the suspect. The suspect was later located and transported to SP Champlain for further questioning.

This is an ongoing investigation.
