Tuberville Applauds ITC Rule Benefitting Alabama Shrimping Industry

WASHINGTON - Today,U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) applauded the recent U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) determination to impose duties on frozen warmwater shrimp imports. The ITC plans to impose duties on imports from Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam after investigations discovered the four countries have illegally been subsidizing and dumping shrimp into U.S. markets.

"This is a huge victory for the people of Alabama," said Senator Tuberville. "Shrimping has long been a hallmark of Alabama's fishing industry, and this rule enables our shrimpers to compete on the same level as our foreign competitors. I am excited to see the positive impacts this rule will have on our state and look forward to additional opportunities to support this crucial industry in Washington."

In 2022, Alabama's commercial wild-shrimp landings weighed 24.28 million total pounds-valued at more than $52 million. Shrimping is the largest commercial fishery in Alabama and is one of the biggest contributors to the state's coastal economy. Last year, Senator Tuberville co-sponsored the Prioritizing Offensive Agricultural Disputes and Enforcement Act to protect U.S. agriculture and establish a joint task force between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Representative on agricultural trade enforcement.
