Congressman Thompson Announces U.S. Department of Justice Grant Awards to Mississippi State Department of Health and Attorney General's Office

Bolton, MS.- Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), through its Office of Justice Programs and the Office for Victims of Crime, has awarded significant grant funds to the State of Mississippi. These funds will enhance services and compensation for crime victims across the state.

The Mississippi State Department of Health will receive $7,031,943 from the Crime Victims Fund to enhance crime victim services. This grant, authorized under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), will be used to support local community-based organizations that provide direct services to crime victims. These VOCA assistance funds are typically awarded on a competitive basis to ensure that the services reach those most in need.

In addition, the Mississippi Attorney General's Office has been awarded $2,118,000 to enhance State Victim Compensation payments for eligible crime victims. This funding, also provided under VOCA, will ensure that federal and state crime victims receive necessary financial assistance to help cover costs related to the aftermath of a crime.

The Crime Victims Fund, established by VOCA, remains an essential resource for addressing the needs of crime victims, and these grants reflect the ongoing commitment to justice and victim support in Mississippi.
