UPDATE: Suspect in June Homicide Arrested (Photo)

A suspect has been arrested for the June 27, 2024 homicide of Hunter Hecker in the Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, detectives assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), served a search warrant at a home in the 6700 block of Southeast 86th Avenue. PPB personnel arrested Adrian G. Garcia, 18, of Portland. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charges: Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Hecker's family has been notified of the arrest.

The victim in the June 27th shooting in the Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood is identified as Hunter Sutherland Lantz Hecker, 30, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death and provided the attached photo for public release. The family has requested privacy, however a prepared statement is available upon contacting family attorney Chris Heywood.

The medical examiner confirmed that Hunter died of homicide by gunshot. The investigation is open and active. No arrests have been made. A man has been shot and killed after a disturbance in the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood.

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:44 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the 5900 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue on reports of a disturbance. Prior to officers arriving at the location, it was reported that shots were fired, and a person was shot. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim who was deceased. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been detained.

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives are responding to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective Sean Macomber at [email protected] 503-823-0404 or Detective Eric McDaniel at [email protected] 503-823-0833. During the investigation, Southeast 82 Avenue is closed between Southeast Ramona Street and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
