Cortez Masto Celebrates New Affordable Homes for Families in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. - Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden, Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Tracy Stone-Manning, Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, (need to insert Lee, Titus, and Horsford) and other local leaders for a signing ceremony for Cactus Trails Homes in Southern Nevada. Cortez Masto was instrumental in cutting red tape that will allow Clark County to provide 20 acres of public land for the development these homes for Nevada families.

"Having a roof over your head is everything. That's why I want to thank the Biden-Harris Administration for working together with us to cut through red tape and streamline permitting guidance to build more homes that Nevadans can afford," said Senator Cortez Masto. "I look forward to seeing these new apartments once construction is complete, and I'll continue working to build quality, affordable housing for Nevadans."

Last August, Senator Cortez Masto announced that the BLM and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) updated the SNPLMA Affordable Housing Guidance to make it easier to build affordable housing on federally-owned land. Cortez Masto worked with local stakeholders in Las Vegas to repeatedly push for this streamlined and improved guidance. Her Southern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act would provide additional land to help Clark County construct affordable housing units, and she's introduced bicameral legislation to make it easier for local governments to complete land transfers vital to achieving Nevada's housing goals.

Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader working to lower costs and build more housing supply. This year she secured $9.4 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco's targeted fund - almost twice as much as Nevada received last year - to support Nevada affordable housing organizations, and she's pushing to reform the FHLB system. She is also leading legislation to significantly increase the amount of federal funds available for the HOME Investment Partnership Program to build more affordable housing across the country.
