Emprende Pro Mujer celebrates one year of supporting Latina entrepreneurs in the U.S.

Emprende Pro Mujer celebrates one year of supporting Latina entrepreneurs in the U.S.

What began as a commitment to promote the economic independence of Latina migrants living in the United States has become a reality. During the Clinton Global Initiative 2023 Meeting, Pro Mujer announced that Latina women who have migrated to the United States could access the Emprende Pro Mujer training platform at no cost, and one year later the program has reached over 1,000 Latina entrepreneursresiding in the country.

Data reveals that Latina women are a driving force for economic growth in the country. The employment participation rate of Latina women has increased by over 7%in recent years. Additionally, they lead in the creation of small businesses at a rate six times fasterthan any other demographic group (Hispanic Star).

That is why, in September 2023, Emprende Pro Mujer arrived in the United States to support Latina entrepreneurs and provide them with the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

Such is the case of Luzmila, who left her career as a lawyer in Venezuela to support her family and arrived in Miami alone, without a support network, and facing severe economic instability that led her to live on the streets. Thanks to the generosity of another Honduran immigrant who opened the doors of her home to her, and to her desire to grow and become independent, Luzmila found the strength to start her own business: Quality Home Servicing,a company dedicated to home maintenance and event planning.

On her journey as an entrepreneur, she came across the free online courses offered by Emprende Pro Mujer, which provided her with the tools she needed to grow her business, better manage her finances, and connect with clients more effectively.

"Pro Mujer helped me because it makes you grow regardless of the business you pursue, and makes you feel confident that there is no limit to what you want to do,"explains Luzmila. "Right now, I feel more confident about what I do and in how I can reach the clients and offer my service."

Beyond providing access to educational content tailored to the needs and stage of the business, the program offers psychosocial support specifically designed for the migrant community, serving as a space where women can feel supported and guided in their growth process.

Alliance with La Red Hispana

In the framework of the first anniversary of Emprende in the United States, Pro Mujer established a strategic alliance with La Red Hispana, a media outlet that reaches over 40 million Spanish-speaking individuals, to communicate its free offerings available to Latina women residing in the country.

Thanks to these collaborative efforts with organizations that work in support of the Latino communities, such as La Red Hispana, Chicanos por la Causa, and Fuerza Migrante, as well as with government entities such as the New York State Department of State and the Mexican Consulate in Florida, the impact of Emprende Pro Mujer in the United States is just beginning, and our commitment to the growth and success of Latina entrepreneurs will continue to strengthen in the coming years.

Like Luzmila, any Latina entrepreneur in the United States, regardless of the conditions under which she migrated, can find in Emprende Pro Mujer the support to reach her full potential and develop leadership skills, as well as increase her confidence and self-esteem.

The impact of Emprende Pro Mujer extends beyond borders. Through its five stages of entrepreneurial training, it has transformed the lives of over 101,900female entrepreneurs from 23 countries since its launch in 2021, providing them with comprehensive support to expand their businesses and turn their dreams into sustainable realities.
