Tec creates Vice Presidency of Learning for the Future

Tec de Monterrey'sexecutive president David Garza has announced the creation of the Vice Presidency of Learning for the Future in order to evolve and consolidate the teaching and learning process.

"This vice presidency will focus on being at the forefront of lifelong learning, promoting innovation, and integrating the use of artificial intelligence."

During his message to the community of faculty and staff, David Garza highlighted the importance of this development within the institution.

"The world offers extraordinary opportunities to enable transformational change to those of us who believe that education can achieve anything and who face reality with the firm conviction that it could be better."

He added that the Tecnológico de Monterrey community aspires to continue contributing to the development of Mexico, positively impacting millions of people, and transcending internationally through education.

"We recognize the enormous capacity of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance learning for millions of people in the Spanish-speaking world."

To this end, Garza shared that Global CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella had recently presented TECgpt, the Tec ecosystem based on this technology, as a successful example of AI adoption in Mexico.

"We believe that we can still impact many more (people) with quality programs, effectively adapted to what companies will require in the future," added Garza.

About the Vice Presidency of Learning for the Future

The new vice presidency will be led by Victor Gutiérrez. According to Garza, it will have the mandate to rapidly expand access to high-quality lifelong education (in non-degree programs), in addition to the traditional programs (undergraduate, graduate, and high school) offered by Tecnológico de Monterrey.

"The creation of this vice presidency comes from recognizing educational needs nationwide and worldwide. Today, we know that lifelong learning and learning at different times is essential to remaining productive in a constantly changing world," saidVictor Gutiérrez.

He also said that the Tec seeks to be proactive in defining the future university model through the use of artificial intelligence, new technologies, andlearning analytics.

"Our goal is to assist more people, of all ages, beyond academic education. Nowadays, it's crucial to understand and develop the skills and abilities needed to take advantage of the opportunities offered by new technologies such as artificial intelligence."

David Garza: "We aren't starting from scratch"

During his address, the executive president of Tec de Monterrey recalled the different times throughout the institution's history that the organization has demonstrated its ability to transform itself in order to serve the community.

He explained that the Tec is working on a Strategic Plan for 2030, which includes lifelong learning and the future of education as its pillars.

Lifelong learning refers to the education people receive during and after completing an academic degree. The idea is to expand their knowledge and improve their personal, social, and job skills.

"This task is possible because we aren't starting from scratch. We've made surprising progress compared to what we had before the pandemic," Garza said.

In addition to the creation of the new vice presidency, it was announced that Juan Pablo Murra, who until now served as the institution's Rector for Higher Education, has added the rectorship of operations to his responsibilities, being appointed Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey.

"This evolution means the Tec and its community are in the best position to enhance our capacity as a platform for transformation," the institution said in a statement.
