The Nutanix Unified Storage (NUS) solution has been positioned furthest in 'vision' in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for File and Object Storage Platforms. This recognition underscores the power of our software-defined storage solution, uniquely delivering a single platform for file, object, and block storage services with unmatched scalability, effortless simplicity, built-in data security, and world-class customer support.
Enterprise Storage Platforms Are the Future
As enterprises fast-track their digital transformation, data demands have triggered a major shift in storage strategies. Disparate, isolated storage solutions for different workloads are proving inadequate as data grows exponentially and is distributed globally. The need to support new applications, combined with a shortage of storage expertise, is accelerating this change. Gartner states, "By 2029, over 80% of unstructured data will be deployed on a consolidated storage platform instead of separate file and object products, up from 40% in early 2024."1
Nutanix Unified Storage (NUS) addresses this shift with its platform-centric approach, also recognized by Gartner as one of our key strengths. NUS was designed from the outset to deliver a consistent storage platform with multiprotocol support (NFS, SMB, S3), centralized hybrid cloud management, high performance, and integrated security to protect data at the storage layer. Our robust suite of data services supports diverse, modern workloads, going beyond the limitations of traditional, isolated storage arrays.
Density, Performance, and Speed - Inflection Point for Scale-out Storage
The rapid evolution of hardware technologies is unlocking new opportunities for storage solutions to deliver high-performance, dense, and cost-optimized platforms. Innovations in storage mediums like higher-capacity SSDs, NVMe, and advanced flash memory now enable far more data to be stored in smaller physical footprints, meeting the growing demands of data-intensive applications.
Leveraging these advancements, NUS delivers exceptional throughput and linear scalability in both capacity and performance, perfectly suited for modern workloads like big data analytics and AI/ML. Our recent MLPerf benchmark results highlight this, showing over 2x performance gains over Nutanix's 2023 MLPerf testing results in supporting AI applications. NUS ranked first in the 'image classification' category and second in the 'image segmentation' workload category, delivering top performance, faster throughput, and seamless scaling to provide faster data access while optimizing GPU utilization.
Cutting-edge Cybersecurity Leadership
According to Gartner, "By 2029, 100% of storage products will include cyberstorage capabilities focused on active defense beyond recovery from cyber events, up from 20% in early 2024." The Nutanix Data Lens (NDL) cybersecurity solution builds on this strategy, defending unstructured data on the NUS platform with a threat containment window that can actively monitor, detect, and block cyberattacks. In testing by the Enterprise Strategy Group, NDL detected ransomware activity within 14 minutes of the start of the attack and automatically blocked all shares at the user and machine level in order to stop the tested attack in its tracks. In addition to external threat defense, NDL provides intelligent data analytics to manage user access, offer risk scoring, and support root cause analysis for insider threats. With the introduction of an EMEA instance of NDL, customers can now house and analyze their data within the EU, enhancing their security posture while anticipating and responding to evolving regulations like DORA in the EU (and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework in the U.S.).
