Contracting team reviews recent AMR findings

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -

Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services recently concluded an Agency Management Review as leaders from across the organization came to the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center in Battle Creek, Michigan, to discuss findings.

This program encompasses all areas of the agency and focuses include isolating trends, identifying best practices, and strengthening performance.

"The AMR program is a formal evaluation of DLA's compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures covering activities of the agency," said Earl Watson, a contracting procurement analyst. "The review provides an objective analysis to help management identify areas of vulnerability and improve overall program performance and operations through corrective action plans."

This program is, in many ways, an exercise in self-reflection for the agency as the goal is to improve operations and customer support.

"The AMR is looking at collectively trying to make the agency better," said DLA Deputy Director of Acquisition George Atwood, as he addressed members of the contracting team. "The [Contracting] team is doing outstanding work on both contract execution and meeting our customer mission requirements in addition to executing the process discipline and audit work that has to be done so that we are maintaining our high standards."

Atwood also spoke on the importance of being prepared for future incidents requiring agency responses or changes in operations.

"The other big thing we are doing is putting ourselves in a more operationally-enhanced presence or footing. In the event that we have to react, we have processes and procedures streamlined," said Atwood.

As this year's AMR concluded, senior leadership was able to review some early findings and express their support for the program and the work done by the AMR team.

"I thought it was very well executed and was very professional," said DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon. "I have seen great improvements in the way the AMR is approached, how we are identifying issues and what we're looking at. I'm very pleased with its evolution."

The next AMR phase is expected to take place in November of this year to review final findings and develop action plans at agency headquarters in Virginia.
