DCHA Puts Residents First at Latest Block Party

September 4, 2024 5:18 PM

Residents and neighbors of Woodland Terrace celebrated Labor Day weekend with moon bounces, retro arcade games, and live music during the latest DCHA Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party on Aug. 31.

The Saturday event, which was one of several DCHA-hosted neighborhood block parties this summer, included giveaways, food trucks, a foam pit, and tons of games and activities for youth. The Rebuilding Our Communities event series has also included property-specific cookouts and other celebrations.

Among the highlights for the kids - they were able to meet Marshall from Paw Patrol and Bluey from Bluey, and take home a toy.

Free haircuts were available, and DCHA knocked on every door to ensure each Woodland Terrace family received free groceries donated by STATDC Global Solutions.

Councilmembers Matthew Frumin and Robert White also enjoyed the festivities, even taking a few moments to learn more about first aid and CPR.

Nearly 50 service providers took part in the Block Party, offering resources and sharing information on education and workforce development programs, job opportunities, and other services available for youth, seniors, and families in the District. The service providers included nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies.

Stay tuned as DCHA will host more Rebuilding Our Communities Block Parties in the fall.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:
