Inquest into the Death of Calvin Lewis Announced

Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Ottawa Office, announced today that an inquest will be held into the death of Calvin Lewis.

Mr. Lewis, 32, died in hospital on July 19, 2021, after being transferred from the Ottawa- Carleton Detention Centre.

A discretionary inquest was called under the authority of the Coroners Act in order to examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Lewis' death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
