Hit and Run Investigation in Roxbury Leads to Arrest and Recovery of a Firearm

At About 8:35 PM on Saturday, July 27th, 2024, Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) conducted a traffic stop in relation to a motor vehicle hit and run with personal injury, which resulted in the arrest of Dequell Golson, 31, of Boston, for an outstanding arrest warrant, as well as firearm, motor vehicle, and narcotic related offenses.

At about 8:30 PM, Officers assigned to a basketball tournament at Marcella Park reported that a vehicle had struck multiple pedestrians and fled the scene. Officers located two victims who were stuck by the vehicle and one was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers provided a description of the vehicle to radio operations and additional Officers began to canvas the area.

While Officers at Marcella Park were aiding victims and establishing a crime-scene, additional units located a vehicle matching the provided description and conducted a traffic stop at 6 Dimmock St. in Roxbury. After the vehicle came to a stop, Officers spoke with the operator, Dequell Golson, and began an investigation after observing damage to his vehicle. A query was conducted and revealed that Golson had an outstanding arrest warrant and he was placed in custody while Officers continued their investigation.

During the investigation, Officers recovered a firearm hidden inside a loose panel inside the vehicle's cab underneath the shifting column. B-2 Detectives responded and determined the firearm to be a Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver, loaded with five (5) rounds of ammunition.

Golson was arrested and prior to being transported, he requested Officers to retrieve his fanny pack from inside the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine located inside the fanny pack.

Dequell Golson is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for an outstanding arrest warrant for the charges of Strangulation/Suffocation, Kidnapping, and Assault on a Family Member. Additionally, Golson has been charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, 2nd and Subsequent Firearm Possession, Armed Career Criminal II (Two Prior Drug/Violent Crime), and Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack Cocaine). Golson was also issued a Mass Uniform Citation for Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, two (2) Counts of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash with Personal Injury, and Failure to Display Headlight.
