District B-3 Officers Recover Firearm Following Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 12:38 AM, on Saturday, July 28th 2024, Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) were on a directed patrol on Selden St. when they observed a Jeep Cherokee speeding and failed to stop for a stop sign. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Capen St. and Fuller St, Dorchester.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and approached the vehicle, where they attempted to identify the driver, and observed him acting frantically and sweating profusely. After the operator explained he was fleeing from a nearby fight, Officers requested he exit the vehicle and began an investigation.

As Officers were conducting their investigation, the operator suddenly fled on foot and was pursued by Officers. One Officer remained with the vehicle and found a black firearm under the driver's seat, then notified radio operations of the foot pursuit and firearm recovery.

The operator escaped after running into a driveway where a nearby party was taking place, and Officers were met by a large hostile crowd that forced them to discontinue their pursuit.

B-3 Detectives responded and processed the firearm, which was determined to be a 9mm ghost gun loaded with seven (7) rounds of ammunition in the magazine and nothing in the chamber.

The operator of the vehicle was identified and issued a Mass Uniform Citation for Speeding, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Motor Vehicle Operator refusing to Identify Self. Additionally, the operator will be charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
