Call for Community Exhibitions at Pleasanton Library and Recreation's Día De Los Muertos Celebration

  • October 10, 2024

The Pleasanton Library is looking for individuals and groups to create and display ofrendas in a special community exhibition celebrating Día de Los Muertos.

Día de Los Muertos is a traditional Meso-American holiday dedicated to honoring ancestors. In Mexico, neighbors gather in local cemeteries to share food, music, and fun with their extended community, both living and departed. The Pleasanton Library and Recreation Department's mission is "start your journey here: discover, connect, enjoy." By discovering, connecting and enjoying this cultural tradition, the Pleasanton Library will be hosting a celebration and is asking for the community's help in creating the displays. This is an opportunity to pay homage to ancestors by creating ofrendas that will be displayed at the library.

Reservation forms for exhibition space are available at the Pleasanton Library or on our website at www.firehousearts.org/celebrations. The application must be turned in no later than Saturday, October 26 at 5:00 p.m. Space is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier that applications are turned in, the more likely that displays will be selected. The Día de Los Muertos exhibit viewing will be take place on Saturday, November 2, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with a bilingual storytime at 11:00 a.m.

This program is free and open to the public.
