Interference with a Police Officer Leads to a Firearm Arrest

At about 7:15 PM, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Danyael Torres, 23, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the area of 518 Warren Street. One of the officers was inside their marked cruiser conducting an inquiry of the stopped motor vehicle. As the officers remained in the cruiser, he felt an unknown liquid substance hit him in the face and arms. The officer informed his partner that a vehicle drove by them and threw something towards them. Officers immediately cleared the traffic stop and were able to locate the suspected vehicle.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle and made contact with the occupants. The front seat passenger stated to officers that he meant to scare them. Officers advised the occupants that they had interfered with a traffic stop and requested their identifications. Officers observed the front passenger to lean forward and requested him to sit up straight in order to be able to see his hands.

After further investigation, officers requested the front passenger to exit the vehicle. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle, and officers were able to open the door to the car. As officers attempted to have the suspect exit the vehicle, they observed him again to be hunched forward. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect and recovered a firearm from his waistband.

The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus PT111 Millennium with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine. Detectives also recovered a squirt gun from inside the vehicle. The remaining occupants were promptly released from the scene.

Torres was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
