Nine Firearms Recovered after Several Firearm Arrests

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Boston Police Officers made several firearm related arrests and recovered nine loaded firearms. In all of these arrests, no officers or suspects were injured. Below is a recap of the arrests:

- At about 2:11 AM, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 15-year-old Juvenile male, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street and Talbot Avenue when they observed a male suspect who they were aware was recently in possession of a firearm. Officers observed the suspect walking down the street with another male individual who was riding a bicycle with flat tires.

Officers parked their cruiser to further observe the suspect, who became alert of officers' presence. The suspect walked away from the other male on the bicycle and fled. Officers drove their cruiser into the parking lot they immediately observe the suspect begin to sprint towards Talbot Avenue.

Officers followed the suspect in their cruiser and observed him discard his backpack in the area of 380 Talbot Avenue. The suspect then continued to run from officers, and a description of the fleeing suspect was broadcasted. Officers searched the area, and located the suspect hiding under a vehicle.

Officers retraced the suspect's flight path and recovered a firearm near the discarded backpack. The firearm was later determined to be a P80 Ghost gun with one round in the chamber and twenty rounds in an extended magazine.

The 15-year-old Juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Delinquent to wit; Trespassing. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Juvenile Court.

- At about 11:15 AM, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Edgard Matos, 18, of Hyde Park, and Breaja Nichols, 23, of Brighton, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol at the Caribbean Festival in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road. Officers observed a large group in front of 610 Blue Hill Avenue.

As officers approached the group, they observed multiple individuals separate themselves. Officers took notice of two individuals walking from the area at a fast pace and continuously looking at officers. Officers observed the suspect to be clutching an object in his waistband, and attempted to catch up to him.

Officers immediately observed the male suspect hand the female, he was with, an unknown object and attempted to sprint away. Officers stopped the female suspect and a struggled ensued. Officers recovered a firearm from the female, and placed her into handcuffs. As officers searched the suspect, they recovered eleven small plastic bags of crack cocaine.

An officer gave chase to the male suspect and broadcasted a description. With the assistance of responding officers, officers were able to locate the male suspect in the area of 20 Old Road.

The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus G2C with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.

Both were placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Nichols was additionally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B. Both are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

- At about 12:57 PM, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested a 16-year-old Juvenile male, and two 17-year-old Juvenile males, on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of the Caribbean Festival when they observed a group of males walking on Columbia Road. Officers were aware one of the males was recently featured on an Identification Wanted BRIC flyer.

Officers lost sight of the group and later observed them congregating around a vehicle in the area of Castlegate Road. Officers approached the group and observed an unattended backpack in the middle of them. Officers inquired who owned the backpack which no one replied. As officers opened the bag, they recovered sixteen rounds in a loaded in a large capacity magazine.

Officers conducted a pat frisk of all the individuals and recovered a firearm from one of the juveniles. Officers approached other people by the vehicle and requested them to exit the car in order to conduct a pat frisk. After further investigation, officers recovered a second firearm from another juvenile.

The recovered firearms were later determined to be a stolen Ruger 38 Special Snub Nose Revolver loaded with six rounds, and a Glock 22 with one round in the chamber and seventeen rounds in the magazine.

The 16-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device

A 17-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.

A second 17-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Delinquent to wit; Receiving Stolen Property.

All three suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Juvenile Court.

- At about 2:40 PM, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Avery Coke, 25, of Canton, on firearm charges.

Officers were assigned to the Caribbean Festival in the area of Erie Street and Ellington Street. Officers observed a group of individual walking on Erie Street. The group observed the officers' presence, and one suspect walked away in an opposite direction.

Officers observed the suspect walk up to the nearest residence and frantically knocking on the door. Officers made contact with the suspect and conducted a pat frisk. Officers recovered a firearm from a fanny pack and attempted to place the suspect into handcuffs. The suspect began to actively resist officers and refused officers' orders to put his hands behind his back.

With the assistance of responding officers, the suspect was placed into handcuffs. The firearm that was recovered was later determined to be a Glock 19 with twenty-four rounds in the magazine. The firearm was equipped with a flashlight and a sear switch/Glock switch which makes the firearm fully automatic.

Coke was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

- At about 5:01 PM, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force assigned to the Caribbean Festival arrested Dayshawn Grant, 34, of Roxbury, on firearm charges.

The officers were aware of a BRIC flyer that was disseminated for an individual who was in possession of a firearm. Officers observed the suspect within a group of individuals in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Seaver Street.

As officers approached the group, multiple individuals began to jump a fence in attempts to flee. Officers observed one individual walking in a fast pace. Officers observed what appeared to be a firearm inside his pocket.

Officers immediately conducted a pat frisk of the suspect, and recovered a firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Ruger EC9s with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

Grant was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Fourth Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm 4th Offense, Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes and Habitual Criminal Penalty Enhancement. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

- At about 5:40 PM, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Noah Hearns, 22, of Randolph, on firearm charges.

While officers were working the Caribbean Festival, they were approached by an unknown individual who advised them that a male was in possession of a firearm. Officers observed the alleged suspect, and noticed that he was clutching his waistband.

As officers approached the suspect, they requested he remove his hands from his waistband which he refused. As officers attempted to gain control of the suspect's hands, they observed the handle of a firearm inside his waistband. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs and safely recovered the firearm which was determined to be a Glock 19 with fifteen rounds in a large capacity magazine.

Hearns was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

- At about 6:45 PM, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 16-year-old Juvenile male, on firearm charges.

Officers were assigned to the Caribbean Carnival Festival in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road. Officers were assisting with a call for a fight which resulted in a victim being knocked unconscious. As officers were on scene, they observed a male individual with a satchel strapped across his body. Officers immediately observed what appeared to be an outline of a firearm.

Officers approached the suspect and immediately conducted a pat frisk. Officers recovered a firearm from inside the bag which was later determined to be a Ruger Security-9 loaded with nine rounds. Officers further observed the firearm's serial number was obliterated.

The 16-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Juvenile Court.

- At about 7:15 PM, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Danyael Torres, 23, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the area of 518 Warren Street. One of the officers was inside their marked cruiser conducting an inquiry of the stopped motor vehicle. As the officers remained in the cruiser, he felt an unknown liquid substance hit him in the face and arms. The officer informed his partner that a vehicle drove by them and threw something towards them. Officers immediately cleared the traffic stop and were able to locate the suspected vehicle.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle and made contact with the occupants. The front seat passenger stated to officers that he meant to scare them. Officers advised the occupants that they had interfered with a traffic stop and requested their identifications. Officers observed the front passenger to lean forward and requested him to sit up straight in order to be able to see his hands.

After further investigation, officers requested the front passenger to exit the vehicle. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle, and officers were able to open the door to the car. As officers attempted to have the suspect exit the vehicle, they observed him again to be hunched forward. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect and recovered a firearm from his waistband.

The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus PT111 Millennium with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine. Detectives also recovered a squirt gun from inside the vehicle. The remaining occupants were promptly released from the scene.

Torres was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
