Stockton Campus Beaming with Pride

Celebrating the placement of the last beam of steel reinforcement in a building is a construction tradition, and the new academic building at the Stanislaus State Stockton Campus got the royal treatment.

Stan State administrators and Otto Construction team members joined in signing the beam that had been painted white with the University's shield logo in the middle.

Once President Britt Rios-Ellis wrote "Seeing Stockton's Success," Stockton Campus Dean Sarah Sweitzer added, "Passion + Heart = Student/Community Success," and Stockton Campus Site Authority Chair and Former Delta College President Kathy Hart penned, "Hope this is the first of many." Others followed, and the beam was raised and placed atop the structure.

"When students show up for classes this week and see that Stan State logo up there, I hope that engenders a sense of pride in the Stockton Campus," Sweitzer said. "It's the highest beam - that sense you can attain your highest dream."

For Hart, who saw the Stockton Campus move from a building at Delta College to University Park, the new building is just a start.

"Ellen Junn did all she could to get this place going, but I think Britt will take it to the next level," Hart said. "This building is going to make a huge difference."

Rios-Ellis smiled brightly as she signed the beam and watched it raised and put in place, knowing what lay ahead.

"I'm incredibly proud of the commitment and level of service we provide here at the Stockton Campus," said Stanislaus State President Britt Rios-Ellis. "This new building will expand our ability to deliver even more impactful programs and activities that will uplift the community.

"Knowing the history of the land, we believe the work we're doing is restorative - ensuring access and opportunity for Stockton and San Joaquin County, fostering student success and social mobility and honoring the rich history and potential of this region. We are excited for what's ahead as we continue to build a brighter future together for Stockton, San Joaquin County and the Central Valley."
