NMBM to host 4th NECOM Demand Side Management Indaba

It's all systems go for the upcoming fourth National Energy Crisis Committee (NECOM) Demand Side Management Indaba, taking place from 27-28 June 2024, in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality where government and private sector experts collectively come up with solutions to end loadshedding.

NMBM will be hosting this exciting edition at the Boardwalk led by the Presidential established NECOM team and political leadership from all spheres of Government. NMBM Executive Mayor, Cllr Gary van Niekerk said the Metro was ready to host the Indaba which is expected to bring various stakeholders to work together to help end loadshedding.

"NECOM is an initiative by the Presidency of South Africa to address the immediate electricity supply shortfall and bring an end to loadshedding. This edition is of importance as we have been without loadshedding as a country for months now and it will shed some light to all of us as to what we more can we do to keep things to secure and sustain electricity supply in our communities. We are looking forward to hosting industry experts and other municipalities where international experiences and case studies on Demand Management, Energy Efficiency, and Demand Response will be discussed."

"The issue of stable electricity supply is critical to service delivery and a thriving economy. It needs both the government and private sector experts to collectively come up with solutions to reduce demand and increase supply on the national grid. The participation of industry players and experts, researchers, and key partners will at the least provide options for electricity demand management initiatives that will reduce South Africa's electricity supply challenges," the mayor said. The two-day programme will see Eskom and NECOM leadership outline the latest progress on energy plan and highlight international perspectives that can help reduce SA's electricity challenges. Business and university stakeholders will also be unpacking the demand management initiatives to reduce SA's electricity supply challenges among other objectives.
