Creative Writing and Theater Workshop at UW Art Museum Oct. 24

A creative writing and theater workshop with Relative Theatrics -- centered on the University of Wyoming Art Museum's current "Harold Garde: Faces in Conversation" exhibition -- is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.

The hands-on workshop will explore Garde's paintings and the intersection of visual art and theater. Participants will analyze expressive faces in Garde's artwork to develop theatrical dialogue and craft short scenes with guidance from Relative Theatrics' skilled teaching artists. The workshop is an opportunity for aspiring playwrights, actors and art enthusiasts to unlock their creativity and explore new artistic avenues.

The workshop is open to the public, ages 16 and older, with pre-registration required. The event is free for friends of the museum, and the cost is $15 to the public. For more information, call (307) 766-6622 or visit the website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum.

At the Art Museum, "Harold Garde at 100: The Unseen Works" features 100 never-before-exhibited works by the prolific American painter who attended UW after returning from service in World War II. The exhibition was nearly 80 years in the making.

Garde's relationship with UW began in the 1940s, when he studied visual arts using the G.I. Bill after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Garde studied with a progressive group of faculty members who represented different styles of modern art. He learned abstraction, expressionism and surrealism, all foundational elements for Garde's work. Paintings and works on paper from Maine, New York and Florida were selected for "Harold Garde at 100" to exemplify his distinct vision and the iconographies he returned to across decades.
