Salmon Bay Park Play Area Renovation Construction Begins

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is happy to announce we have issued the notice to proceed to A-1 Landscaping & Construction for the renovation of Salmon Bay Park play area, 2001 NW Canoe Pl, in the Ballard neighborhood. A-1 Landscaping mobilized at the park on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The contractor will close the play area during the renovation project and work to minimize impact to the neighborhood. Thank you in advance to the community for their cooperation and patience during this construction project. We anticipate opening the play area in early 2025.

The 'Woodland Explorer' play area design selected during community outreach is the basis for the new play equipment and layout. The new equipment will include structures for ages 2-5 and ages 5-12 with multiple slides, a large net climber, multiple balance and climbing elements, nature play themed play panels, log hops, tot, belt and adaptive swings, several bridges and platforms, and a climbable whirl. The existing zip line will remain. The project includes accessibility improvements for routes to and from the play area and new seating areas. New play equipment and surfacing will meet current accessibility and safety standards for public playgrounds. The project team is coordinating with SDOT to install additional bike parking that serves the play area.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the public process and to everyone that supported the Seattle Park District. The Seattle Park District funded this play area renovation along with many other play areas and projects including maintenance of parklands and facilities, operation of community centers and recreation programs, and development of new neighborhood parks on previously acquired sites.
