Prime Minister Dr Golob meets Olympic medal winners

Prime Minister Dr Golob, first expressed his deep respect for all the athletes and once again congratulated the medal winners - gold medallists Janja Garnbret and Andreja Leški and silver medallist Toni Vodišek. "The Olympic Movement is much more than sport, it is one of the best examples of what a better world should look like," said the Prime Minister, adding that athletes are often our inspiration and role models in their attitude and approach. "Above all, in how to translate the lessons of sport into life, how to believe in yourself and in your ambition, and how to realise it. This is the message that I would like to see transferred from sport to the outside world," the Prime Minister said, adding that athletes are the best ambassadors for our country.

The Slovenian Government has also been preparing for these Olympic Games for several years. "For the first time, we as a country invested resources in the Olympic Games that we have not in the past. We also want to use the Olympic Games to promote our country, because we believe that sport serves as an ambassador that brings people together and, as such, helps to raise the profile of Slovenia."

The Prime Minister said that the Government and the Slovenian Olympic Committee were working to ensure that athletes had better conditions after their careers come to an end. "I believe that this is the right attitude for a country to show towards all the individuals who represent and promote it, and that their achievements are something we will not forget. We will begin discussions on this shortly," the Prime Minister said. "Sometimes you never know where a medal is going to come from. I believe that in the future we will repeat the successes we are witnessing now," the Prime Minister added, thanking all the athletes. Gold medallists Janja Garnbret and Andreja Leški, silver medallists Toni Vodišek and their coaches received awards for the Olympic medals they won.
