Minister Hasani Meets Peter Szijjarto: Hungary Supports the Acceleration of Albania’s EU Integration Process

Tirana, September 11, 2024 - The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, held a meeting with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto.

Minister Hasani expressed his appreciation for Hungary's support in advancing Albania's integration process, as well as that of the entire Western Balkans region towards the EU, while expressing full confidence in the acceleration of this process during Hungary's Presidency of the EU Council.

"The fact that Hungary's current EU Council Presidency has made the integration of the Western Balkans one of its key priorities is the clearest indication of their commitment. We would like to see other EU member states embrace this strategic vision for the region as well. Only in this way will the rapprochement of our countries with the Union gain the necessary momentum and progress without unnecessary obstacles," said Minister Hasani.

Hungary's Foreign Minister Szijjarto stated that the Hungarian EU Council Presidency is in favor of an accelerated enlargement process, emphasizing that Albania has met all the requirements to further advance in the integration process.

"Albania fully deserves to begin the accession process. This year, Hungary will organize two high-level meetings in Brussels between Albania and EU member states, where discussions will focus on the chapters and steps to be undertaken, particularly regarding the opening of the first three chapters and the objectives to be achieved through them," declared Foreign Minister Szijjarto.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister's visit to Tirana follows Minister Igli Hasani's visit to Budapest in March of this year, where two important agreements were signed, specifically for bilateral cooperation in education and the further development of collaboration in the training of diplomats and the exchange of information in relevant academic fields.
