Take a first look at plans for new affordable homes at Ockford Ridge

Local residents are invited to a drop-in event at St Mark's Church in Godalming on Tuesday 30 July to view plans for 20 new affordable homes at Site F of Ockford Ridge.

Waverley Borough Council is working with Stephen Taylor Architects to develop exciting plans for new environmentally sustainable homes in this part of Ockford Ridge. The drop-in event, which will run from 3.30pm until 6.30pm, is a chance to meet with the team managing the project, talk about the proposals and ask any questions.

Providing good quality housing for people of all income levels is one of the key strategic priorities for Waverley Borough Council and these new affordable homes will help to modernise the council's housing, meet local need and create a stable, inclusive community.

Waverley Borough Council is proposing to demolish 14 existing properties and replace them with 20 new affordable homes. The plans feature both flats and houses, ensuring there are homes to suit families of different sizes, and there will be 32 off street parking spaces to reduce pressure on nearby roads.

The council has listened to feedback from local people to ensure the new homes at Site F meet the needs of the local community. The new homes will be built in traditional Surrey red brick, using high quality materials, and will be designed to complement the style of existing houses in the area. Generous windows will ensure internal rooms are bright and airy, and there will be built in storage throughout each home.

Sustainability is at the heart of the design, reflecting the council's commitment to tackle climate change. Solar panels will produce renewable energy to power the new homes, including electric vehicle charging points and energy efficient LED lighting. Air Source Heat Pumps will be installed to provide a more efficient way of heating the homes, and high-quality double glazing will keep the heat in and the cold out.

Any residents who are unable to attend the drop-in event on 30 July are able to view the plans on Commonplace, the council's new engagement hub at www.waverley.gov.uk/housingdev. All the information boards are available to read and there's the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed layout and design.

Councillor Janet Crowe, Waverley Borough Council Co-Portfolio Holder for Housing (Delivery), said:

"This new development at Ockford Ridge Site F is a chance for us to replace some of our old housing with brand new homes that are better suited to modern day living.

"We are proposing to increase the number of homes provided on the site from 14 to 20, so we can help more local families off the housing waiting list and into a home of their own.

"All the new homes will feature the latest sustainability measures to help our tenants conserve energy, protect the environment and lower their energy bills.

"We're excited to share our plans with the community, so please come along to our drop-in event on 30 July and let us know what you think. Your views are important to us, and feedback from residents will help us to shape our plans before we apply for planning permission later this summer."
