AI Adoption Case Study: KPMG's AVA (Gen AI) tool creates useable outputs, improves efficiencies and reduces risk

Learn how KPMG's AVA tool is increasing colleague productivity with AI, whilst maintaining a secure internal environment.

techUK's AI adoption collection of case studies showcases examples of how organisations are Putting AI into Action, either through the adoption of AI models within their organisations, or by developing AI tools that can be leveraged by others.

By shining a light on these use cases, techUK hopes to demonstrate examples of best practice from across sectors and from organisations of all sizes.

1. Challenge:

KPMG UK sought to address the challenge of enabling colleagues to benefit from the increased productivity GenAI can offer, whilst maintaining a secure internal environment.

2. Solution

KPMG achieved this through the implementation of AVA, their own Gen AI chat and deployment tool that quickly connects KPMG people to the information they need. The tool reviews and interrogates information to create useable outputs, while improving efficiency and reducing risk.

3. Barriers

A significant challenge to effective use of AI across an organisation is colleague engagement. To address this KPMG ran a global hackathon, along with multiple other training events, to promote colleague collaboration and engagement from the onset. Further to this we have an established network of "Digital Ninjas" across the organisation that act as experts in how best to utilise our internal technology offerings.

4. Impact:

The impact of launching AVA has been vast. AVA now has 15,000 users and receives 72,000 queries a month, with over 80% of users commenting on its ease of use. In a recent use case AVA was able to generate a "shareable" draft of required documentation in 15 minutes as opposed to an expected manual time commitment of 3 hours. AVA's functionality allows users to create prototypes within the tool to extend its offering, with over 14 already deployed.

The broad ambition of utilising AVA is for colleagues to increase their efficiency in executing a specific task by 60-80%. It is continuously being updated with additional features and functionality to best serve our colleagues and increase productivity.
