Swan Falls Powerhouse Museum Wrapping Up Summer Season

If you have been waiting to visit the newly renovated Historic Swan Falls Powerhouse Museum, now's the time. The museum at the oldest hydroelectric dam on the Snake River is open for free self-guided tours for three more Saturdays - Aug. 17, 24 and 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Swan Falls Dam, located about 20 miles south of Kuna, was built in 1901 to provide electricity to nearby mines. Idaho Power built a new power plant in the mid-1990s that generates enough energy for more than 20,000 homes. The old plant is now a museum, which was updated earlier this year with new displays to complement the vintage equipment remaining in the old facility.

Museum visitors can also check out the interpretive signs in the adjacent park that outline the geologic and cultural history of the area. Pedestrian access across the dam is open during daylight hours. For directions and more information, visit idahopower.com/swanfalls.
