Officers Recover Firearm Arrest Suspect Following Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At 2:10 AM, on Saturday, November, 2nd, 2024, Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested 22-year-old Cameron Leonard, of Weymouth, for firearm related offenses following a traffic stop at Columbia Rd. and Holden St., Dorchester.

Officers were on patrol near Columbia Rd. and Holden St. when they observed a vehicle traveling on Columbia Rd. with an expired registration. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified the driver and five other occupants, they informed the operator that his vehicle was unregistered and needed to be towed. Officers issued an exit order to all occupants of the vehicle and their attention was drawn to the last person remaining in the vehicle, Cameron Leonard.

Officers observed Leonard raise his right hand while his left hand remained in his pocket, appearing to hide or conceal an item. Additionally, Leonard displayed several characteristics of a person carrying a firearm and officers began to investigate.

Officers conducted a pat-frisk of Leonard's person and felt a hard metal object believed to be a firearm. Leonard attempted to run away from Officers, but after a brief foot chase he apprehended and recovered a firearm from his hooded sweatshirt.

District B-2 Detectives responded and determined the firearm to be a Sig Sauer, Model P320 M18, Caliber 9mm firearm, with a ten (10) round capacity magazine containing seven (7) rounds, and no round in the chamber.

Cameron Leonard was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
