On October 4, 2024, the Honorable Steve White sentenced Trey Hallman to 114 years to life in prison. On June 27, 2024, Trey Hallman was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree attempted murder. The jury also found true a gun use enhancement on all counts.
On August 23, 2019, Trey Hallman snuck in the backdoor of his former residence armed with a 9mm handgun and wearing body armor. He went upstairs, where three of his friends and former roommates were sleeping. Hallman then shot two of them in their beds and another through his bedroom door. One victim was shot through the arm and chest. He succumbed to his wounds several days later. The other two victims were seriously injured but recovered from their wounds. Immediately after the shooting, Hallman fled to the Bay Area. Sacramento Sheriff's detectives contacted Hallman via text and convinced him to turn himself in to authorities. The District Attorney's Crime Lab tested a 9mm handgun recovered from Hallman's vehicle and identified it as the gun used in the shooting.
Hallman entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. On July 10, 2024, the same jury found Hallman was legally sane when he committed the murder and attempted murders.
