REST IN PEACE THOMAS J. MANNING

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of esteemed New Jersey labor leader, Thomas J. Manning, who passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024.

Tom was recognized by his members and peers for his many years of experience and dedication to improving conditions for New Jersey's workers. Throughout his career, he tirelessly advocated for the pressing needs of working families. Following in his father's footsteps, he joined Steamfitters Local Union 475 of Newark, New Jersey in 1971. After over twenty years in the field, Tom was elected business agent in 1994, then to the position of business manager in 2000, and held that position for nine years until his retirement in 2009. During his tenure, he served as President of the New Jersey State Association of Pipe Trades. Tom also served as the Vice President of the Executive Board at the New Jersey State AFL-CIO.

At the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, we honor Tom's commitment to preserving our union values, and his willingness to fight for the rights of workers from every sector of the New Jersey labor movement. Our condolences are extended to his family and friends during this difficult time.
