The New York State Police Responded to Over 2,000 Crashes on Long...

The unofficial summer season, Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, has passed and school is back in session. During this time, the New York State Police (NYSP) in Troop L responded to 2,180 crashes. Of the 2,180 crashes, 5 involved fatalities, 536 crashes involved injuries, and 1,639 involved property damage.

Of the 19,195 tickets issued, 5,202 were speeding tickets, 1,492 were for safety restraints, and 1,602 were distracted driving tickets.

409 intoxicated and impaired drivers were removed from Long Island roadways.

The NYSP will continue to enforce the vehicle and traffic law with vigilance. Although the summer is coming to an end, our message will not change. Do not drive under the influence, obey the speed limit, wear your seatbelt, and distracted driving will not be tolerated. Driving is a shared responsibility, and the NYSP will continue to protect motorist safety.
