Another School Passes Public Health Inspection with Governor’s SORT Support. Finegayan Elementary Passes Public Health Inspection

Hagåtña, Guam - Another school makes a passing grade to return to in-person learning. This week, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) completed inspections at Finegayan Elementary School in Dededo. At Finegayan Elementary School, the Governor's School Opening Readiness Team (SORT) addressed a myriad of issues with carpentry of door and window repairs, painting, replacing/installation of ceiling tiles, electrical work of replacing light bulbs and ballasts, securing and coverage of wires, installation or repair to heating ventilation air condition (HVAC) systems, plumbing that dealt with water supply and restroom repairs, including repairs to faucets and other fixtures. This work was completed by the Guam FES Faculty & Staff, the Department of Education Maintenance Team, volunteers who supported the school over the weekend, the Department of Military Affairs, and the Guam National Guard. The team assessed and advised school personnel on the demerits, fixed or repaired items related to structural/carpentry, electrical and plumbing, and overall general maintenance and clean up of the school.

"We are especially proud of the work done by our FES Faculty & Staff, GDOE Maintenance Team, our community partners of volunteers, the Department of Military Affairs, and the Guam National Guard to address Finegayan Elementary School-Guam's largest elementary school, which services one of our most populated villages," said Acting Governor Josh Tenorio. "To our families affected by the delayed school openings, we are thankful for your patience as we work to bring all our students back to in-person learning and minimize further disruptions to their education. As we recognize more schools passing their public health inspections, we also acknowledge that significant challenges remain with the remaining facilities, which we continue to address."
