TACOMA, Wash. -- Tonight, the City Council adopted Resolution 41491transmitting the full ballot titles for six proposed City Charter amendments to the Pierce County Auditor:


  • Providing for Equitable Access
  • Required Meetings of the City Council
  • Limitations Upon Sale or Transfer of Waterfront Property
  • Duties and Authority of Council Members
  • Composition of the Planning Commission
  • Changing Term Limits for Future Elected Council Members


Individuals interested in being considered for appointment to committees writing statements "for" or "against" any of the six proposed Charter amendments are asked to submit a letter of interest to the City Clerk's Office by 3 PM on July 26, 2024. Letters may be sent by email to
[email protected]or by mail to 747 Market Street, Room 220, Tacoma, WA 98402.

Each individual must submit their own letter of interest. Within the body of a single letter, each individual must include their full name and address, indicate which of the six proposed Charter amendment(s) they are interested in, and explain why they would like to serve on the "For" or "Against" committee(s) for those proposed Charter amendments.

The Government Performance and Finance Committee will consider the letters of interest at a special meeting on July 29, 2024 at 10 AM. The special meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format that includes in-person and remote options to attend at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market St., Room 248), online by going to zoom.us/j/84416690206(using passcode 614650), or by phone by dialing (253) 215-8782 (using meeting ID 844 1669 0206 and passcode 614650).

On July 30, 2024 at 5 PM, the City Council is expected to consider a resolution appointing individuals to committees writing statements "for" or "against" the six proposed Charter amendments. The Council is also expected to consider a resolution which will consolidate and clarify 10 other proposed Charter amendments being referred to a standing committee or alternate process for further study and evaluation. The meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format that includes in-person and remote options to attend at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market St., Chambers), online by going to zoom.us/j/84834233126 (using passcode 349099), or by phone by dialing (253) 215-8782 (using meeting ID 848 3423 3126 and passcode 349099).

Statements prepared by the "For" and "Against" committees will appear in the Voters' Pamphlet, and are due to the Pierce County Auditor on or before August 8, 2024. Rebuttal statements are due on or before August 12, 2024.
