UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Connection to May Homicide (Photo)

A suspect has been arrested for the May 4, 2024 homicide of Ozell Shepherd in the Wilkes Neighborhood.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit, with assistance from U.S. Marshals, arrested 23-year-old Alex M. Brown-Golden. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charges: Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon (firearm).

Shepherd's family has been notified of Brown-Golden's arrest.

The man shot and killed on May 4 in the Wilkes Neighborhood has been identified as Ozell Shepherd, 34, of Gresham. His family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide the attached photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined Shepherd died of homicide by gunshot wound.

A man has died in the Wilkes Neighborhood after a shooting.

On Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 5:00a.m., North Precinct officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 15700 block of Northeast Beech Street. When they arrived they found a victim in the street. Paramedics responded and determined the man died at the scene.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called. Officers searched the area, but no immediate arrests were made.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit is responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, Northeast Beech Street is closed between Northeast 156th Avenue and Northeast 158th Avenue.
