Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky Visits Phoenix Bean Tofu Plant to Discuss Illinois Soybean Production and Its Impact on the Food Processing Industry

CHICAGO, IL - AUGUST 15, 2024 - On Tuesday, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky visited the Phoenix Bean Tofu Plant in Chicago to discuss the critical role of Illinois soybean production in the food processing industry. The visit was hosted by Phoenix Bean Owner & President Jenny Yang, with the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) participating in the discussion.

The conversation focused on the importance of locally sourced soybeans in sustaining Illinois' agriculture and food processing sectors. The meeting underscores the interconnectedness between local soybean farmers, food producers and the broader economic impact on the region.

"As a vegetarian, there is a special place in my heart for soybeans! Soybeans are a key source of nutrition, a renewable resource, and a crucial ingredient in so many products, including tofu," said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky."I had a fantastic visit to the Phoenix Bean Tofu Plant, and I commend Jenny Yang for her tremendous work and leadership.
