Moore County woman charged with insurance fraud and attempt to obtain property by false pretense

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Keysha Gillis Cox, 50, of 624 Thomas Ave., Aberdeen, NC. Cox was charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Both are felonies.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division, Cox attempted to defraud Travelers Personal Insurance Co. out of $1,946 by filing a renter's insurance claim for an address where she did not live.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on April 30, 2023.

Cox was arrested on July 11 and released on a $5,000 secured bond. She is ordered to appear in Moore County District Court on August 26.

"Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet," Commissioner Causey said. "Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I'm fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina."
