As we approach Independence Day, it is crucial to highlight the potential dangers associated with fireworks and promote safe practices. Fireworks can be a significant hazard to both life and property if not handled properly. This event aims to educate the public on the safe use of fireworks and the importance of adhering to legal guidelines to prevent injuries, fires, and other accidents. It also provides an opportunity to hear from and engage with experts dedicated to public safety. Firefighters will demonstrate the various dangers posed by fireworks, including: • The potential for house fires- roof prop demonstration. • Risk of bodily injuries- mannequin child holding a sparkler. • Legal vs. illegal fireworks - various fireworks displayed in each category. • Proper disposal of fireworks. • Information on how pets are affected by fireworks. • The strength of a firework- demonstrated by its impact on a watermelon, showing the potential for severe injuries. Phoenix Police, Valleywise Health and the Arizona Humane Society will provide information about the legality of fireworks, fireworks related injuries and pet safety.
