Press Release

On July 18, 2024, State Police, in partnership with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Fulton County Office of Emergency Management and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested Leon G. Nadeau, 39, of Broadalbin, NY, for two counts of arson in the third degree and one count of arson in the fifth degree.

On July 18, 2024, at about 9:50 a.m. State Police of Mayfield responded to the reports of two active suspicious fires in the area of North Main Street and Railroad Avenue in the village of Broadalbin, NY. A short time later, a third non-active fire was identified at another location on North Main Street. Nadeau was witnessed in the area of the fires and located by patrols, where he was detained. The investigation has determined that Nadeau allegedly intentionally started all three fires, causing damage to multiple commercial buildings and a place of worship. No injuries were reported as a result of these crimes. All fires were extinguished with the assistance of bystanders and the Broadalbin-Kenneyetto Fire Company.

Nadeau was arrested and transported to SP Fonda for processing. He was then transported to the Fulton County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

This joint agency investigation is ongoing.
