The week-long cinematography short course will be delivered at the University's Brayford Pool Campus in Lincoln and students will be taught by established industry professionals through a blend of tailored masterclasses and technical workshops using the latest industry-standard equipment and facilities.

Designed to produce industry ready graduates who possess a core understanding of the art and craft of storytelling with a camera, budding cinematographers can also learn about the associated environmental impacts of this field, gaining experience of sustainable practice.

Jack Shelbourn, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for BA Film Production, and BFI Short Course in Cinematography at the University of Lincoln, commented: "I am thrilled that we will be welcoming 16- to 19-year-olds from across the UK for a week in Lincoln, where they will be immersed in the art and craft of cinematography. We have some fantastic guests lined up, and I am confident that the students will leave the course ready to explore the film and TV industry further and make their mark.

"This opportunity is also a strong endorsement of what we offer at the University of Lincoln. We are proud to be the only BFI Academy Specialist course that provides focused teaching on the art, craft, and various roles within cinematography. This clearly indicates that Lincoln is THE place to learn about cinematography in the UK, whether through our BA, MA, or our new course in collaboration with the BFI."

During their time on the course, students will be able to gain hands-on experience by filming professional actors as well as hearing from a range of guest speakers who will give insights, advice and experiences of working in the film industry.

There are 30 places on the course, which will run in summer 2025. For more information, please email Jack Shelbourn: [email protected]or visit the course page online: www.lincoln.ac.uk/course/cinmabfi/.
