Recent events highlight the importance of staying vigilant and taking proactive steps to ensure our personal safety and that of our loved ones. Whether a visitor enjoying our iconic beach or a resident taking a morning walk at the waterline, there are a few measures you can take to further protect yourself.<_o3a_p>

Stay Aware of Your Surroundings<_o3a_p>

We have all been distracted by the sound of the waves or the whiz of traffic flying by. One of the best ways to protector yourself is to always be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions that might keep you from identifying unusual behaviors. <_o3a_p>

Trust Your Instincts<_o3a_p>

If you notice suspicious behavior or feel uneasy do not hesitate to remove yourself from the situation. Your safety is paramount, and it is better to be overly cautious than to take unnecessary risks. <_o3a_p>

Stick Together<_o3a_p>

When possible, travel with a friend or in a group especially in unfamiliar areas. If you are going for a run, walking your dog, or going out for a night on the town, let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.<_o3a_p>

Know Your Local Public Safety Resources<_o3a_p>

Hanging out at the beach? Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Public Safety Substation located on the Pier. While on the Promenade, look for ambassadors wearing identifiable blue shirts available to assist you. In addition to 24-hour 9-1-1 access, our non-emergency dispatch line, 310-458-8491, is also available 24/7 for non-urgent police issues. <_o3a_p>

Report Suspicious Activity

Using the resources shared, if you see something suspicious, don't hesitate to contact the police department. Your observance could prevent a crime or protect someone in need.
