ERO Boston arrests fugitive wanted for in Ecuador for raping child

BOSTON - Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston arrested an Ecuadorian fugitive wanted in his home country to face charges of raping of a minor and invasion of privacy. Deportation officers from ERO Boston apprehended the Ecuadorian noncitizen June 12 near his residence in Northampton, Massachusetts.

"This Ecuadorian fugitive is facing some very serious charges, but instead of facing the justice system, he fled and attempted to take refuge in Massachusetts," said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. "He posed a significant threat to the children of our communities, and we cannot allow that to continue. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England."

U.S. Border Patrol arrested the Ecuadorian noncitizen June 4, 2021, after he unlawfully entered the United States near San Luis, Arizona. Border Patrol officials issued the noncitizen a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and released him from custody.

On May 16, 2023, Ecuadorian authorities issued an arrest warrant for the noncitizen as a fugitive from justice after being charged with rape of a minor and invasion of privacy.

Deportation officers from ERO Boston apprehended him June 12 near his residence in Northampton, Massachusetts.

ERO conducts removals of individuals without a lawful basis to remain in the United States, including at the order of immigration judges with Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review. The Executive Office for Immigration Review is a separate entity from the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Immigration judges in these courts make decisions based on the merits of each individual case, determining if a noncitizen is subject to a final order of removal or eligible for certain forms of relief from removal.
