Christina Bohannan continues to gain momentum heading into Election Day, earning support from both The Gazette and Iowa City Press-Citizen Editorial Boards this week. With reproductive freedom and border security at the top of voters' minds, both Editorial Boards trust Christina to deliver for Iowans on these issues.
We endorse Bohannan.
Much of the campaign has centered on differing views on abortion rights. Bohannan opposes abortion bans, such as the one that took effect in Iowa. Miller-Meeks is pro-life and supports abortion restrictions.
On immigration, Bohannan supports the bipartisan reform plan that was shelved due to objections from Donald Trump. Miller-Meeks downplays the reform plan while bashing her opponent.
Iowa City Press-Citizen Editorial Board:
Two of the top issues for Iowans - the two first issues asked about in the debate - are abortion and immigration. We believe Bohannan would best represent the will of Iowans on both of these issues. She has stated that if given the opportunity, she would vote to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law, a position supported by most Iowans. In our meeting, Bohannan highlighted her belief that women should have the right to control their own bodies.
[Miller-Meeks] has supported extreme positions in Congress, such as co-sponsoring a bill that states life begins at conception. Miller-Meeks has tried to claim that the bill has nothing to do with abortion, that the distinction between life and health of the mother in abortion bills doesn't matter, and that Iowa's strict 6-week abortion ban will not influence our ability to recruit OBGYNs and other medical professionals to the state. Either Miller-Meeks is woefully misinformed on these issues or she is not being honest.
This is a serious time meant for serious people. Not only do we believe that Bohannan would most closely represent the views of our state, but we also believe she will fight for all Iowans, regardless of which party controls the House, the Senate or the White House. For this reason, we support Christina Bohannan to represent us in the first congressional district in Iowa.
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
"It's never been more clear that Mariannette Miller-Meeks is only looking out for herself and her party bosses, while Christina Bohannan sides with Iowa families and will work with anyone to get things done."
