Admission to the festival is free, but be sure to RSVP here. Food, drinks, crafts, and more will be available to purchase from a variety of local vendors.

Why should I go?

If you are looking for an immersive, multicultural experience, look no further than the African Festival of Boston, a local tradition for more than a decade. Drawing visitors from all over New England, the festival highlights the rich diversity of African cultures in and around Boston. For two days, Boston Common will be suffused in music and drumming, delicious food from a variety of cuisines, and vendors selling all kinds of handmade goods.

Sponsored by the Berklee College of Music, Turkish Airlines, Meet Boston, and the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, this annual event pulls out all the stops. Expect performances by Lumanyano Mzi, Numidians, and Albino Mbie.

The festival is split into several areas-including the Taste of Afrofusion Pavilion and the Afrofusion Art Market-so be sure to take your time as you weave through the Common. Since the first festival in 2010, this tradition has exemplified the beauty and joy of Boston's African communities, and this year is no exception. Bring a friend, and prepare to be inspired.
