Growth in Fall 2024 Freshman Enrollment at OPSU

Oklahoma Panhandle State University is starting the 2024-2025 academic year strong with a significant increase in freshman class credit hours, up by 8%, and a 7% rise in freshman headcount compared to last year. Also, this freshman class shows an increase in high school GPA scores. This year's incoming class demonstrates OPSU's commitment to attracting and supporting exceptional students.

The 2024 freshman class is larger than 2023 and has demonstrated academic excellence. The most common GPA among the 2024 freshmen is a perfect 4.0, up from 3.48 in 2023. This upward trend reflects the academic potential of our newest Aggies, many of whom are coming to OPSU with a solid foundation and an eagerness to excel.

In addition to academic achievements, the composition of the freshman class reflects a broader representation of Oklahoma residents. The proportion of in-state students has grown, strengthening ties with local communities and attracting talented students from across the state.

University President Dr. Julie Dinger expressed her enthusiasm for the incoming class, stating, "I'm proud of the work our team has accomplished in bringing in this larger freshman class. These aggies are coming to OPSU with a strong foundation from their high schools." She continued, "We're already seeing them actively engage in classes and supporting each other at campus events. We look forward to supporting them as they build their path to the future."

Another area of success is concurrent enrollment, which has surged by 38% from last year, thanks to Cindy Kincannon's dedicated efforts. Her work has been instrumental in expanding the reach and appeal of this program, offering high school students an invaluable opportunity to jumpstart their college education while still completing their secondary education.

"Mrs. Kincannon's relentless efforts to connect with students and educators have driven concurrent enrollment to new heights and set a standard of excellence echoed across our campus. Our team's collective commitment to enhancing the student experience, both in and out of the classroom, is truly inspiring," stated Dr. Julie Dinger.

This year's freshman class is particularly unique as it is the first to enter our doors without having experienced the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic during their high school years. "There's an undeniable energy on campus this semester that feels positive and bright. While overall enrollment may not be up as sharply as in previous years, the increased participation in campus activities and more students in classrooms rather than online signals a promising shift," stated Laura Hutchinson, Dean of Student Affairs.

As OPSU grows and adapts, the university remains focused on providing an enriching educational experience that prepares students for successful futures. The enthusiasm and commitment of students, faculty, and staff this semester is an indication of the bright days ahead for the Aggie family.
