District Council supports ASB Awareness Week 2024

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has joined a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and raise awareness of the support available for ASB and how to report it.

Running from the 18^th to the 24^th of November, ASB Awareness Week 2024 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the help and support available. Organised by Resolve, the UK's leading ASB and community safety organisation, the week features a series of events across the UK involving Councils, Police forces, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.

YouGov research commissioned by Resolve found that almost 1 in 5 people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them; 1 in 10 have actually moved. Despite this, over half of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report the ASB.

Two Anti-Social Behaviour Officers, responsible for co-ordinating action to tackle anti-social behaviour, are employed in Stratford-on-Avon District Council. It is important to report ASB to the agency best equipped to deal with the behaviour, this could be; Warwickshire Police, Stratford-on-Avon District Council or the relevant housing association. Cllr Natalie Gist, Portfolio Holder for Law and Governance at Stratford-on-Avon District Council, said: "ASB can have a persistent and devastating impact on residents, businesses and communities. The prevention of ASB is paramount and the Council works closely with Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire County Council, Housing Associations and range of other services. It is vital that residents report ASB to ensure that the right support and interventions are applied to prevent and reduce ASB. The ASB Officers at the Council coordinate the response to high-risk anti-social behaviour cases by bringing together key agencies to resolve complex and persistent ASB.
