Seton Hall University Introduces Tap to Print

To further enhance campus security and streamline printing processes, the Department of Information Technology is pleased to announce the upcoming installation of new RFID readers on office printers located on the South Orange campus. These advanced Near Field Communication (NFC) devices will replace the current card readers, allowing faculty and staff to securely access and release print jobs with a simple tap of their ID cards.

The introduction of RFID readers aligns with Seton Hall's commitment to improving security, simplifying user access, and fostering sustainable practices. This update will allow for more efficient and accountable printing while reducing waste and ensuring sensitive documents remain protected.

Departments will receive direct communication ahead of the RFID reader installation with dates and additional details. The initial rollout of upgraded NFC readers will be exclusive to the South Orange campus, with other campuses scheduled to receive the upgrades later next year.

How to Prepare:

  • Update Your Campus ID: Confirm that your ID card is compatible with the new tap-to-print system. If your ID card is outdated, visit Card Services to get a new one.

  • Have Your Pharos PIN Ready: For a smooth transition, faculty and staff should have their six-digit Pharos PIN available. This PIN is required the first time you use the RFID reader. If you've forgotten your PIN, resetting it is quick and easy. Click here to reset your Pharos PIN.

  • Check Your Print Drivers: Verify that you have the correct print drivers installed to avoid any disruptions.

  • Know Your Printing Locations: Review the comprehensive list of faculty and staff printers across campus.
